Glenn Hughes
Mississippi State University

Glenn Hughes is Extension Forestry Professor for the Mississippi State University Extension Service. He provides forestry-related programs to landowners, homeowners, youth, professionals, and others interested in forestry in southeast Mississippi. He works with Extension Agents, county forestry associations, natural resource professionals, and others to advance forest management and stewardship in Mississippi.

Glenn has written and spoken on many forestry topics including longleaf pine management, forest certification, landowner education, forest history, emerging markets, and general forest management. After Hurricane Katrina he spent considerable time and effort helping landowners, homeowners, and others affected by Katrina. Glenn’s interest in renewable energy was sparked by the massive piles of hurricane debris, most of which were not used for energy. That, combined with the release of the IPCC report on climate change in 2007, caused him to believe that the forestry profession is undergoing a fundamental change in which woody biomass will provide a source of renewable energy in the future.

Glenn is a Forestry graduate from Mississippi State University, and has graduate degrees from the University of Wyoming and Texas A&M University. He taught previously at Penn State University. He is married, and has 3 children.
