Dean Tiessen owner and operator of Pyramid Farms Ltd Leamington Ontario Canada. Pyramid Farms Ltd. has activities in Specialty Greenhouse Vegetable production as well as holds most the miscanthus assets the Tiessen family of companies is engaged in.
The Tiessen Family of farms has been using biomass to heat their greenhouse operations since the winter of 2004-2005. Seeing the limited amount of feed stocks the market could offer, in 2006 investigated and trialed various purpose grown crops to work toward supplementing and replacing their waste wood supplies. 2007 Pyramid Farms identified Miscanthus as the leading crop that could supply their needs (30,000 dry tonnes annually). Since then Pyramid Farms acquired and has many different cultivars of miscanthus under trial for commercial use in Canada and other markets. As an example, part of Pyramid's portfolio of cultivars in Canada are many of the leading clones from Tinplant of Germany. Pyramid in 2008-2009 developed IP in the rapid multiplication of this species proving it in Cananda and the USA. With this technology Pyramid Farms today has the most diverse and largest reserve of miscanthus plant material ready for commercial use in North America.
Pyramid Farms has many formal relationships with many companies and academic institutions around the world that are involved in Miscanthus. Pyramid now is invested in the full value chain as it relates to purpose grown feed stock crops. From the production and procurement of cane feed stocks for third parties to present and future genetics.
The growth potential of purpose grown biomass feed stocks will be exponential in coming years. Pyramid Farms and their network partners are positioned well to be a substantial player in the North American market place. New Energy Farms being the vehicle developing a efficient affiliate network that will flush out opportunity in local communities around the world. South Eastern part of North America will be a hot bed of opportunity for the long term production of feed stocks for the nation. Infrastructure and growing climate that is evident in this region will make this region one of the most competitive places in the world to produce first and second generations bio fuels and products. New Energy Farms invested back in 2009 and called Tifton Georgia home to produce foundation material for the north American marketplace.
